           Outside My Window
This morning outside my window the grass was stiff and
white with frost. The first of the season. The air crisp
and cold, made me think of bitting into a fresh apple.
Teeth sinking into crisp white flesh, juice running off your
chin. I love to go apple picking and the apples are so sweet
after the frost has touched them. I remember picking
apples up from the ground after the first snow fall one
year, those were the best apples I ever tasted.
Things were rather quiet outside my window today.
Or maybe I was just too tired to notice. There was a
breeze fresh and sweet and cold...no not burrr...but
to me so very refreshing.
Seems to me there are less birds singing outside my
window now. Gone for the winter they are. Just our
little winter birds are still here.
Geese have been flying over in their vee formation,
wild honking filling the air outside my window. Wonder
if we will see the wild turkeys this year.
I saw a funny thing outside my window...a grown man
wearing a bear jumpsuit with ears. He looked so silly.
Better be for Halloween cause it is just to silly. At
least it made me laugh.
There are new small pine trees outside my window.
The tall old pines have been cut down and carted away.
In their place are blue spruce about 4 foot tall.
I shall miss the old ones, hearing the wind in the
branches was something I loved to listen to. And
they were so beautiful covered with fresh snow, I shall
miss my old friends outside my window.
Gone are some of the trees too, taking away the shade
on our balcony. Sure was hot out there with out the trees.
My little plant shriveled in the heat, its stalk growing
big and stiff...leaves little and hard. Poor plant!
In the evening outside my window it has not been
quiet. The neighbors down the way. Stand outside smoking
and talking loud, looking right toward my balcony.
Kids screaming , bikes wizing by, skate boards clattering.
But right now it is dark and quiet. A little later they will
after the kids are in bed, talking loud and laughing. I
love the pockets of quietness.
And right now there is peace outside my window. My
warm blankets are calling, my eyes grow heavy. The
thought of my soft mattress makes me sigh and I say
Goodnight to life outside my window one more night.
